Before writing any code, we ask a question: who will experience this work, and what will it offer them? The School of Computing & Future Studies and the School of Design & Everyday Life are launching a university-wide creative coding workshop that begins with attention to people.

Small group projects form the heart of the workshop. Students are encouraged to find ideas in campus life: a clearer event map, a story that people can edit together, or a small installation that invites someone to pause and hear the sounds around them.

Sessions will introduce interaction logic, basic programming and prototyping step by step, with regular opportunities to discuss work in progress. Students with no coding experience can contribute through visual design, storytelling and experience design, working with their team to create a finished piece.

The final showcase will share prototypes as well as the observations, experiments and revisions behind them. We believe that an honest conversation about a failed attempt can sometimes teach us more than a perfect finished result.
